Khmer Ruins in Thailand

Don’t get me wrong, Cambodia’s Angkor Wat is one of the most amazing places in the world and if you’re in the area it is absolutely worth your time and money. But few outside of Thailand realize that the Kingdom has its own share of impressive Khmer ruins, too. In fact, there are more than a dozen sites scattered around Isan in northeast Thailand. While they’re not as big or well-restored as the temples in Siem Reap, they are well kept and interesting in their own right. And they’re easy to get to and visiting them won’t involve battling huge crowds of tourists or aggressive touts like you’ll find in Cambodia. The three best Khmer ruins in Thailand are all within driving distance of each other and can easily be seen on a weekend from Bangkok.
