Thai New Office For Emergency Flood, Fire and Mudslide Issues

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has established a new office specifically for emergency situations concerning flash floods, fires and mudslides with a team of rescue workers ready to launch a quick operation.

Director-General of DDPM Mr. Wiboon Sanguanpong said the aforementioned disasters were the three most common predicaments that had ever occurred in Thailand. They are most likely to be triggered during the rainy season from May to September.

To prepare for what may come, the establishment of the new branch of the Department to oversee these issues will prompt warnings to residents living in risk prone areas prior to the disasters.

Any signs or events most likely to lead to the disasters will be taken into consideration. Evacuation may ensue if necessary. Residents needing help can call 1784 around the clock.
