Day 2
Day two I had a few things to do, first was to go get a scooter. On the way I was approached by a man who asked if I wanted “DVD”, which was one of the things I needed so I said yes and followed him to his market stall. “Grand opening” he said. Yeah heard that one about 60 times before. Anyways about 6 blokes surrounded me as I was having a look. I grabbed what I needed and asked how much. He typed in a ridiculous amount on his calculator and I told him there was no chance and I’ll get them cheaper down the road. Then he and his mates got nasty and started yelling and screaming, the first time I was in Bali I got a bit shaken by this and paid them what they wanted. This time I told the boss “too many people!” “I deal with you!” in an aggressive manner”. I’m not getting shafted this time. They can’t steal my money, theft in Indonesia has a hefty penalty and there was no chance these boys wanted to be sent to Kerobokan prison which meant there was nothing they could do about me walking out the shop. They needed money so they would listen to me. The others left and I told him I would give him a bit under half of what he offered and we both agreed and shook hands. All up cost me $2 per DVD which is $1 more than usual. Who gives a shit! He then asked if I wanted anything else like “Young girl?” I gave him a dirty look and told him NO but I do need a scooter. He passed me onto his mate who was waiting out the front and a scooter was arranged for $10 a day. From this I learnt a valuable lesson. Don’t buy from the males in Bali go to the woman, they are much more polite and don’t push you into buying something. They also ask what you want to pay for it and barter from there. So much easier. Driving back on my scooter I couldn’t believe how many people were wearing jumpers and jeans. It was like 36 degrees out and they were all covered from head to toe. I was boiling with just board shorts on!
