pA Thai man was struck and killed by the propeller of a speedboat off the shore of Pattaya Beach while he was fishing in the sea. The incident happened at the northern end of Pattaya’s main beach around noon, in front of the A-one Hotel. /p
pWhen rescue teams arrived at the scene they found a large crowd of spectators made up of both Thais and foreign tourists. They were all gathered around a boat which contained the dead body of 21 year-old Chaiwat Nuntanon. /p
pThe victim was a resident of neighbouring Sattahip. His friend told police they had taken a small boat about one kilometre out to sea, well beyond the designated swimming area. The friend stayed in the boat while the victim dove into the water searching for shellfish. /p
pThe friend noticed a speedboat moving quickly towards them and tried to get the attention of the speedboat’s driver. But the noise from the boat’s engine was too much and the driver could not see him. Unfortunately for the victim he was just surfacing for air when the speedboat ran right over him. His body was seriously cut up by the propeller, and he died on the spot. /p
pThe driver of the speedboat was carrying 16 Korean tourists to a href=”http://www.1stoppattaya.com/what_to_see/koh_larn/”Koh Larn/a on an excursion. He followed his usual course, and claims he never saw the victim and was totally unaware of the accident. Police, however, have decided to charge him with the appropriate offense. /p
