They didn’t know it was their lucky day till passengers of Thai Airways flight TG 1205 landed at the Phuket Airport on Monday. All 250 passengers won gifts in a lucky draw held by The Airports Authority Of Thailand.
Monday was the start of a three-day promotion called “Lucky Flight by AOTâ€. The promotion staged by the AOT is an attempt to restore Phuket’s image as one of Thailand’s safe tourist destinations.
The beginning of November starts the peak season for tourists visiting Thailand’s beachfront destinations. Bad publicity has recently tarnished Phuket’s reputation as a safe and friendly choice for tourists from around the world.
Last year, the Phuket International Airport reported arrivals surpassing the 5 million mark for the first time in the airports history. PIA management is hoping to see arrivals climb at least 8% this year.
“PIA expects these activities to increase arrivals during the high season with the lucky passengers spreading the news around Phuket by word of mouth,†Mr Sucheep said. Other airline winners of the “Lucky Flight by AOT†included Dragon Air and Malaysia Airlines.
